Analytics vs. IoT Analytics


This was interesting to me since I deal with IoT analytics. In my opinion, the two true differentiators are

  1. Edge analytics (when some high-velocity data is processed right near the sensors because cloud-based analytics is too slow and too expensive for this task).  This is referred to as “Distributed analytics (edge)” in the picture above.
  2. Bidirectional communication and control of endpoints.  In my opinion, “true” IoT has to be bidirectional.
