It clearly looks cool, yet dangerous for the driver: make the wrong move, and you can lose your leg.
I feel like they left the spinning blades exposed and the driver’s legs unprotected for a stronger dramatic effect, since there is no real engineering reason not to put some protective mesh around them. Nothing prevented them from implementing something like this:

Scorpion-3 is by far not as advanced yet. But it is a good start.
